On the east coast of Massachusetts is a historic town named Plymouth.

This is Plymouth Beach in 1913. If you look closely on the right, you can see several small buildings.

These are fisherman’s shanties which were built for storage and selling seafood.
Over the years they have become an iconic part of Plymouth’s history.

Now, the shanties are owned by the town, but they have been abandoned for many years and are in poor condition.

In 2013, a news article titled “Save The Shanties” was published because of the town’s plans to demolish them.

In 2020, an arsonist burnt one of the shanties to the ground during the middle of the night.

Massachusetts shelters are also at record high capacity for unhoused families, and a shelter was recently opened in Plymouth.

After talking to some locals, we learned that the town had a few ideas for what the shanties could be turned into.

Why not make it all three?

The shanties could be turned into a house for an unhoused family. John is a fisherman, his wife Amy is an artist, their daughter Sophia is a student who loves birds and wildlife, and they have two pets.
